What purpose did they serve before they were uprooted from their original context and put on display? The exhibition juxtaposes artifacts from different cultures and forges connections between objects and people, and between the visitors themselves.

An Archeological Odyssey: Among Archives and Artefacts

Adults Families SchoolsThe exhibition goes behind the scenes of archaeology and explores its historiography as a discipline not limited to fieldwork, but drawing on aspects of various other disciplines to create a new way of interpreting the past. The artefacts on display are accompanied by archival documents, recreating the context in which the discipline emerged as a science.

Tumulus, moutains of eternity

What treasures does it contain ? Delve into the heart of the tumuli an discover the secrets hidden beneath these ancient grassy mounds of earth and skilfully crafted stone structures.

Images and illustrations from the Japanese Edo period (1603-1868)

Adults Families SchoolsFeaturing some of the finest works from the magnificent collection of ancient Japanese books in the Rare Books Reserve of UCLouvain the exhibition showcases the art of images and illustrations. Japan donated more than 13,600 books to the Université catholique de Louvain in the 1920s, the oldest dating back to the 13th century. At the time, it was regarded as the most beautiful collection housed outside Japan.

Provoking debate about complex economic issues that nevertheless structure our lives.

The BienvenUE exhibition is a forum for cultural and human exchange on the topic of South-North migration. Some 43 artists reflect this societal challenge in their work. Whatever their format – written text, drawing, painting, sculpture, assemblage, photograph, film or song – the exhibits reach out to visitors as European citizens and inhabitants of the world.
